This rare work is complete and in a contemporary half calf over marbled boards with gilt titles and raised spine bands. Binding is tight and clean, paper reference number on lower spine. X-lib. Jean Louis Rodolphe Agassiz (1807-1873), was a Swiss paleontologist, glaciologist, geologist and zoologist. Best remembered for his studies of fossil fish and glaciers. He was a professor of natural history at University of Neuchâtel. Upon immigrating to the United States he accepted a professorship at Harvard University. His work Universal Index of Zoological Nomenclature was issued in parts from 1842-1846 and the complete work published in 1848. It was considered a key reference work on zoological nomenclature to many years.
