This rare work is complete and in a contemporary half calf over marbled boards with gilt titles and raised spine bands. Binding is tight and clean, paper reference number on lower spine. X-lib. Ealing Public Library, England with book plate on paste down and stamp on title page and last two pages. Text bright and clean with minor foxing. Very good condition.

Jean Louis Rodolphe Agassiz (1807-1873), was a Swiss paleontologist, glaciologist, geologist and zoologist. Best remembered for his studies of fossil fish and glaciers. He was a professor of natural history at University of Neuchâtel. Upon immigrating to the United States he accepted a professorship at Harvard University. His work Universal Index of Zoological Nomenclature was issued in parts from 1842-1846 and the complete work published in 1848. It was considered a key reference work on zoological nomenclature to many years.
