Bakewell, (1768-1843) was an English geologist. He made extensive mineralogical and geological surveys in England and Ireland, after which he lectured and exhibited sections of rock formations and the beginnings of a geological map of Britain. He published two textbooks for students, one on mineralogy and one on geology. Both were highly popular and used in colleges for many years in both Europe and America. The third edition of his Introduction to Geology was first published in London in 1828. The London 1828 edition is quite scare with the 1829 American edition after the 3rd London being far more common.
