George F. Becker (1847–1919) was an American geologist. His most important work was in connection with the origin and mode of occurrence of ore deposits, especially those of the western United States. He graduated from Harvard 1868 and completed his Phd studies at Heidelberg. In 1879 Becker joined the USGS and was to become the head of the California division of the USGS. Becker was to become a leader in mining geology, ore deposits and geophysics. His studies of the Comstock Lode and the quicksilver deposits are considered classics in the study of the origins and mineralogy of ore deposits.
