Collins (1841-1916) was a British mineralogist, mining engineer and geologist. Over the course of his life he amassed a major mineral collection and was heavily involved with the Royal Geological Society of Cornwall, the Royal Institution of Cornwall and the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society. Collins was the founding Secretary of the Mineralogical Society of Great Britain and Ireland and helped found the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy. Most of his time was focused on the systematic exploration for minerals in Cornwall and Devon.
Within the above work Collins provides a thorough description of the geology, ore deposits and their genesis and mineralogy, the mining districts and the mines and their economic importance in Cornwall and Devon.
