The work is complete and in the original stamped pebbled green cloth with bevelled edges, gilt spine titles and brown end sheets. The binding margins and hinges have been nicely restored, end sheet margins with minor tears repaired with archival tape. The text is lightly toned. Over all in very good condition.
An encyclopedic work on the history and present state of California published at a transitional time in the state’s history, which is reflected by the fact that the author provides much information on agriculture and manufacturing as well as mining operations, The work was considered to be the best source of information on California at that time. This copy contains all of the full page plates which were not included in many copies.
