A noted Italian geologist and paleontologist at the Royal Technical Institute of Milan; Stoppani (1824-1891) published extensively on the paleontology and geology of Italy, especially in the Alpine regions. The above is his first published work. Stoppani provides one of the earlier detailed descriptions of the geology and vertebrate and invertebrate paleontology of the Lombard region of the Italian Alps. The folded profile is quite stunning.
