The work is complete and in a contemporary calf over marbled boards with gilt titles. The binding is tight and clean with smudge mark from old call number on upper inner edge of cover. The text and plates are clean with small embossed stamp on title and owner’s book plate on paste down. In very good condition.
Hornstein was a German mineralogist. His textbook of mineralogy was considered an excellent introduction to the science of mineralogy, and provided the reader with a good foundation to the chemical background of mineralogy. It was written as a text to be used in the high schools of Germany.
