Robinson, a member of the United States Geological Society, originally began compiling this geographical catalogue of American minerals for his own use. He later expanded the study in a more complete form for the general reader.It is the first attempt at a comprehensive catalog of American mineral and gem localities. Most of the localities are east of the Mississippi River including parts of Canada including New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec.
