This work is considered as the best publication on Cripple Creek. Chapter One was written by T. A, Rickard, State Geologist of Colorado and provides a history of Cripple Creek, its development and future potential.

The work is a detailed record of the more than 400 Cripple Creek mining companies incorporated prior to 1900. The information includes their date of incorporation, list of officers, map of their claim, notes on their property and development, etc. An index to all of mining companies is provided and a detailed description of each is given including a mine plat of the property. The folded map shows in color the surface holdings of each mining property described. The holdings are designated by the company name. The wealth of information provided makes this a cornerstone reference for the historian of Cripple Creek’s mining history.
