An Austrian paleontologist, stratigrapher and structural geologist; Uhlig (1857-1911) was the successor to Eduard Suess at the University of Vienna. He wrote extensively on the geology and paleontology of Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Austria and is considered one of the founders of modern Viennese geology. His above study of the cephalopods from the Carpathians of Poland is considered a classic on the region and contributed to our understanding of the structural geology and stratigraphy of the region.
