Hewitt, Abram S.; On the Statistics and Geography of the Production of Iron. American Geographical and Statistical Society, New York, Wm. C. Bryant & Co., 1856. Octavo, pp. 37, large folded table.
The report is complete and in the original tan title wraps, in a modern archival folder. X-lib. Harvard Univ., with book plate, and small stamp. From the library of noted American geologist J. D. Whitney with his signature on cover. In very good condition.
This report is the paper read by Hewitt before the American Geographical and Statistical Society, on February 21, 1856 at New York University. Hewitt provides a history of the role played by iron mining and production in the rise of major powers, the role of iron in helping a nation win a war, the production of iron in America over the past 100 years and how iron will continue to play a major role in America in the future. The report is quite rare.
