The set is bound in original tan title wraps with black titles within decorative borders. Spine edges have been re-enforced with archival tissue, 12 plates (invert. fossils) in erster bd. in facsimile, 9 plates (invert. fossils) in zweiter bd. in facsimile. Last two volumes complete. Light marginal foxing to some text and plates, very good. Rare work issued by subscription only, one of 165 copies.


Haidinger (1795-1871); an Austrian mineralogist and geologist; was the son of the noted mineralogist Karl Haidinger. His principal works were on Austrian geology, the mineralogy of pseudomorphs, meteorites and fossil footprints. He published several works and over 320 papers on these various subjects. The above rare work is the four volumes of a short lived publication which was an annual treatise of works by eminent paleontologists, mineralogists and geologists. The work was sold to subscribers with the number never going above 165. The set contains important works by Hauer on cephalopods, Barrande on Brachiopods, Haidinger on mineralogy, pleochroism and pseudomorphism, Neumann on meteoritics, Reuss on Tertiary fossils and forams, Zigno on the Venetien Alps, .Koch on the Zeuglodon, Ettingshausen on paleobotany, Kenngott on mineralogy, Massalongo on fossil mammals.
