Johann Samuel Eduard d'Alton (1803 - 1854) was a German comparative anatomist. He studied medicine at the University of Bonn and on the death of Johann Meckel in 1833, d'Alton was appointed his successor as professor of anatomy at the University of Halle. He held that position until his death in 1854. He is best remembered for his work in comparative anatomy and especially for his drawings of human and fossil bones. His above work is one of the earlier accurate anatomical studies of the fossil remains of glyptodons from the Banda Oriental district of Uruguay.
