This classic treatise describes the bedrock geology and the character and occurrences of lead-bearing strata and veins in this famous mining region in northeast England. Chapters discuss ore body emplacement, hydrologic effects, and mineralogy of specific veins and localities. Mines/veins receiving attention include Clermont, Small Cleugh, Tyne Bottom, Ashgill Field, Rampgill, Holey Field, Coal Cleugh, and more. The metallic veins are also noteworthy for their magnificent mineral specimens: galena, calcite, fluorite, barite, etc. The folded 27 by 22 inches colored map entitled: "Map of the Alston-Moor and Coal-Cleugh Mining Districts" is pristine and in the rear pocket
