This rare work is complete and in contemporary calf with gilt spine panels and titles, marbled end sheets. The binding is tight and clean, 18th century book plate on paste down with 20th century book plate above it. The text is very clean. In very good condition. Very rare work proposing the establishment of a mining academy in Freiberg.
The famous mining academy in Freiberg was established in 1765. Within this work; which is in three parts, Zimmermann discusses the purpose of a school of mining which can examine the mining sciences in depth, the geological sciences, the study of ore deposits and the exploitation of those ore deposits through mining technology. The basic truths of the sciences would be examined, mechanical tests proposed, historical treatises studied, observations and field studies used and chemical studies performed. Of special note. In his Foreward, Zimmermann is the first person to propose that a mining school be established in Freiberg. This was in 1746 and the school was established in 1765.
